Why Should You Study B.Tech In Industrial Engineering?

  1. B.Tech in Industrial Engineering is a diverse field.
  2. There are a lot of career profiles that an industrial engineer can work on.
  3. This job is a real-world job where you can make a visible impact rather than just working on laptops all day.
  4. Industrial engineering is an important skill which is going to be needed and demanded by our country, which is boosting its manufacturing and industry sector.
  5. It is a good area of knowledge to start entrepreneurship.
  6. Industrial engineering provides a very good foundation for students interested in subjects like operations management and analytics, and who wish to pursue masters either in MBA or M.Tech.

Admission Process

  1. The admissions to some of the top IITs of our country happen through JEE Advanced.
  2. Apart from that, most of the institutions in our country give admissions on the basis of marks obtained in JEE Mains.
  3. However, some private Institutions may conduct their own entrance exam or accept class 12th marks as the only admission criteria.
  4. For top government colleges, the admission process is entirely centralised.
  5. Once the students fill out the application form after getting their scores in JEE, centralised seat allocation takes place by the joint seat allocation authority.
  6. The seats are allotted on the basis of ranks obtained in the entrance test as well as the preferences for course and branch filled up by the student in the application form.
  7. Once a student gets a seat, they may update or freeze it for themselves.

Fee Structure

  1. The fee for B.Tech in the top IITs of our country is around 4 to 10 lakhs.
  2. On average, it is 6 lakh.
  3. However, in other Central colleges or National Institute of Technology, the fee range is a little lower and is around 2 to 4 lakhs across the whole course duration.
  4. However, if you take admission in a private college or a university, the fee would be around 5 to 12 lakhs for the total course, depending on the institute you get admission into, and the fee is directly proportional to the rankings, facilities and brand value of the institute.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. To be eligible for B.Tech in industrial engineering, a student must qualify for the Class 12th examination from a recognised board
  2. The student must have studied subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics. After that, a student must register for an entrance exam called the Joint Entrance Exam conducted by the National Testing Agency. These two conditions are broadly the same for admissions to all the engineering institutes in our country.

What Are The Career Options After B.Tech in Industrial Engineering?

  1. Industrial engineering students get good placement opportunities with high starting salaries at top companies in the country.
  2. Industrial engineers get hired in diverse sectors like production, warehousing, maintenance and operations by healthcare manufacturing, IT, consulting and even the government sector.
  3. An industrial engineer can easily set up their own venture to do entrepreneurship.
  4. Industrial engineers can seek opportunities abroad in countries like Germany, Japan or Singapore.
  5. Masters in M.Tech or MBA- Master’s in Business Administration are other attractive options wherein a student can further pursue research or engage in teaching.

Conclusion

Industrial engineering is an attractive field where a lot of exposure is offered to the student. Learning is great in this field, and opportunities are also good.

Globally, the scope is increasing as well, but a student should consider their interest first and see whether they’re interested in working in the industrial setup and have the acumen to do analytics and engage in operations and management of an industry regularly.

Overall, this field seems to be promising. However, the final choice of specialisation depends on the student’s interest.
