What are the eligibility criteria for B.Tech Admission?

The following is the eligibility criteria to pursue a four-year B.Tech program in India-

  1. A student must have passed class 12th with a science background. 
  2. He or she must obtain a minimum percentage of marks in subjects like physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Generally, this cut-off percentage is set at 50% with certain exceptions for reserved category students. 
  3. Scores obtained in JEE Mains and Advanced are considered to determine the eligibility in top Institutions of the country like IITs.
  4. The maximum age limit has not been laid down. However, the minimum age is usually 17 years.

  • In government institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, the fee is charged semester-wise and is around 1.12 lakhs per semester.
  • The fee for a 4-year B.Tech program in private universities is more or less the same as that in government institutions and is around 1 to 2 lakhs per semester. 

What is The B.Tech Admission Process?

  1. At the national level, admissions to institutions like IIT are granted based on scores obtained in the JEE exam. 
  2. Many states, like West Bengal, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, conduct their own joint entrance exams to determine eligibility to state-level universities.
  3. Private Universities like BITS Pilani and SRM University have their own private engineering entrance exams for admissions to their respective institutions. 
  4. Forms for JEE Mains are released around October. Students need to register themselves for it and appear.
  5. Once the scorecards are issued, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority conducts counselling for granting seats to various institutions under its ambit. Students qualified in JEE Mains can participate in that.
